If Sports Ruled The World

I stand up in a room filled with people. One after another they say their name and their vices. Then it’s my turn, with my arms folded and a shy undertone, I say, “Hi I am Emily”. The room answers me, “Hi Emily”. I’m a delinquent. A junkie of another kind. To get to the point I say one word. “Sports”. They look at me with angst, for many of them are just like me. One says, “It is tough being a Packers fan while living in Bears country. Don't hold it against me! After all, I am originally from Wisconsin.”

Sport is an activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.
But to me it is much more.

Sports is the one of the only things that connects us all. It breaks down barriers. Race, social class, physical appearance. It doesnt discriminate, it brings together. Gives us something to believe in, makes our hearts pound, is an excuse for us to go out and be with friends, gives kids that come from nothing a chance and a way out. It is the universal language that is overlooked.

If sports ruled the world, I think, it would be a better place.
